The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has codified a set of risk management standards known as ISO 31000. ISO 31000:2018 establishes principles and generic guidelines for organizations to manage risks.
To replace the myriad of existing standards, methodologies, and
paradigms that varied between sectors, subject matters, and regions, ISO 31000
aims to provide a globally accepted framework for practitioners and businesses
using risk management processes. The ISO 31000 recommendations can be tailored
to any organisation and its context for this purpose
ISO/TC 262, the committee in charge of this family of standards, has
released five standards as of 2020, with four more in the proposal or
implementation stages.
